Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 January 2025

Overview

SGHere is designed with a privacy-first philosophy. We do not require user accounts. We do not collect personal information. We do not perform server-side tracking of individual users. The app is built to give you real-time transit information as quickly as possible without compromising your privacy in the process.

This policy explains what data exists when you use SGHere, where it lives (spoiler: on your device), and what third-party services are involved in delivering the app to you.

Data Stored on Your Device

All user-generated data is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage mechanisms (localStorage and IndexedDB). This includes:

  • Favourite stops, parking lots, and EV chargers — the items you've starred
  • Custom nicknames — any names you've given to your favourites
  • Ordering preferences — how you've arranged your favourites list
  • App settings — your language preference, theme choice
  • Cached transit data — bus stop databases and recent arrival data for faster loading

This data is never transmitted to any server operated by SGHere. It lives solely on your device and is fully under your control. You can clear it at any time through the app's Settings panel or by clearing your browser's site data.

Location Data

When you grant location permission, SGHere uses your device's GPS coordinates to:

  • Calculate walking distances to nearby bus stops, parking lots, and hawker centres
  • Centre the Nearby map on your current position
  • Show markers for amenities within your vicinity

Your location is processed entirely on your device. It is never sent to SGHere's servers, LTA, or any third party. The coordinates are used in-browser to compute distances and render map markers — nothing more.

Location permission is completely optional. If you deny it, you can still search for stops by code or name and use all features except distance calculations and the "nearby" functionality.

Third-Party Services

SGHere relies on the following third-party services to function. Here's what they see:

Service Purpose Data Shared
LTA DataMallTransit data (bus, MRT, parking)Bus stop code only (no user info)
Google AdSenseDisplay advertisementsMay set cookies; see below
OneMap (SLA)Map tilesStandard HTTP requests for tiles
data.gov.sgWeather & hawker dataStandard HTTP requests (no user info)
CloudflareHosting & CDNStandard web server logs (IP, user agent)

None of these services receive your name, email, location, favourites, or any personally identifiable information from SGHere.

Cookies

SGHere itself uses no cookies. We don't set any first-party cookies for tracking, analytics, or session management.

However, Google AdSense — which serves advertisements on our help and legal pages — may set third-party cookies for ad personalisation and measurement. This is standard Google advertising behaviour. You can control ad personalisation through:

  • Google Ad Settings — opt out of personalised ads
  • DAA opt-out — industry-wide ad tracking opt-out
  • Your browser's cookie settings — block third-party cookies entirely

Push Notifications

If you enable push notifications for arrival alerts, your browser generates a push subscription token. This token is stored on our server solely for the purpose of delivering arrival alert notifications to your device.

No other data is associated with this token — no name, no email, no location, no browsing history. The token is a randomly-generated identifier that your browser uses to route push messages to your device. If you revoke notification permission or uninstall the PWA, the token becomes invalid and is automatically cleaned up.

Analytics

SGHere uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for basic traffic metrics (page views, country-level geography, browser type). Cloudflare Web Analytics is privacy-preserving by design:

  • No cookies are set
  • No personal data is collected
  • No cross-site tracking occurs
  • Data is aggregated and not tied to individual users

We use this data solely to understand which pages are visited and what devices people use, so we can prioritise improvements. We cannot identify individual users from this data.

Children's Privacy

SGHere is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app requires no accounts and collects no personal data, there is no mechanism through which a child's information could be gathered or stored by us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or third-party services. When we make changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Changes take effect immediately upon posting. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Since we don't collect email addresses, we cannot notify you of changes directly. The updated policy will always be available at this URL.
